This week’s evangelism started out with a lady I met outside my hostel. Her name’s Marvelous. She came to see some of her friends who were staying in my hostel. I was on my way out when I saw her and I hesitated at first, but I just perceived I should speak to her.
Her friends were still with her, so I told the Holy Spirit to help me chase them away😂. And he did. She was all alone. It was time to pounce.
I walked up to her and introduced myself. I asked her a few things about herself and then I started my message. I spoke to her about the love of God and how God has great plans for her if she would yield.
And glory to God, she gave her life to Christ. I decided to take it a step further and ask if she would want to be baptized in the Holy Ghost, but she declined because her friends were waiting for her. But she promised to go for a foundation class when she goes to church.
After my discourse with Marvelous, I met a couple guys who gave me the heading for this post. Their names were Ibrahim and Emmanuel. I walked up to them and asked if they would give me a few minutes of their time and they were demanding I pay for those minutes😅.
They eventually allowed me to speak and when I stated my mission, Emmanuel said to me, “I knew that’s what you were going to talk about”. I asked how he knew and he said “Your face looks Christ-like”.
Side note: My oh my😊. That’s the greatest compliment I’ve ever received in my life.
I’m the living fulfillment of 2nd Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory just as by the Spirit of God.”
I proceeded to my message and Emmanuel told me he was already a believer. So I turned to Ibrahim and he told me he was a believer as well but not in Jesus.
Side note: I’ve learnt that in conversing with unbelievers, especially people who already have a belief system, you don’t go headlong belittling or condescending their beliefs. For some, they may give their lives to Christ on the spot but for the more deeply rooted ones, it takes time, the Holy Spirit, prayer and the Word of God for their eyes of understanding to be enlightened. God is a gentleman, Deuteronomy 30:19(NLT) says “ Today, I have given you the choice between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live”. He doesn’t force anyone to do anything and we shouldn’t as well.
I told Ibrahim to be open to God and as a proof of His love, so many other people will come to speak to him about Jesus this week. I said a prayer for them and then I left.
On Thursday, I was at COMSIT to work on my site. COMSIT is like a hangout spot for students in my university because there’s access to free wifi. As I was working on my site, a guy behind me said to me, “Is that WordPress?” I replied in the affirmative and then continued my work. I didn’t even think to preach to him at first because Thursday wasn’t my evangelism day.
Side note: Everyday should literally be our evangelism day. We may have specific days which we dedicate solely to reaching out to souls, but let everyday be a day to preach the gospel to someone, wherever you find yourself.
But later it occurred to me to preach to him and I’m so glad I did. His name is Sunday, he’s a fresher(that means he’s in 100 level). I spoke to him about starting his journey in the university with God and how it begins on the platform of giving his life to Christ. When I popped the question, he said yes.
Gloryyy💃🏽.
I led him to Christ and afterwards I just thought to myself what if I wasn’t yielded to the Holy Spirit and I decided to wait till “my evangelism days” to reach out.
The harvest is ripe, don’t lose out.
On Friday, I went for evangelism with a sister, SisTos and our first stop was with a guy named Stanley. Stanley was a young businessman in charge of his sister’s store. We saw him from afar and we decided to speak to him. He must have realized that we had our eyes on him because immediately we walked up to speak to him, he said he wanted to buy something so he left his store, went to another store, left that store and went to another shop😂. He was just all over the place. He stayed in one particular store so long, I told SisTos we should leave and probably come back.
When he saw us leaving, he came out of the store. I looked back and saw him and told him, “God has caught you”. He just laughed. It was so obvious he was running away from us. He eventually allowed us to speak to him and as we were, he said, “I know that’s what you want to say, that’s why I was running away”. Smh. If he knew, why was he running away.
Anyway, he was already saved. We asked him if he could speak in tongues. He said he couldn’t and he didn’t really understand what it meant. We explained to him and he said he would like to speak in tongues.
We told him to open up to God and we prayed with him. But he didn’t speak in tongues. He said God probably didn’t want him to speak in tongues but that’s not true. We told him it’s God’s gift to us and he should keep his heart open to receive from God and he’ll speak in tongues. It might even happen when he least expects it. We told him we’ll keep checking on him but his desire should be up.
But I like to make a confession. So on one of these days, I went out for evangelism but I didn’t pray before I left my hostel. And let me tell you, 0 souls were saved because I was doing it in the energy of my flesh. I saw a tweet by P Daniels Olawale, a few weeks back and it read “Evangelism without intercession is like reciting a poem”. Evangelism is serious business and we can’t be fruitful in it with just the enticing words of man’s wisdom or in the eloquence of our speech. We need the power of the Holy Spirit.
I’ll end on this note, leaving you with our great commission, “Go into all the world and preach and publish openly the good news(the Gospel) to every creature [of the whole human race].” Mark 16:15(AMP)
Till I write to you next,
Stay blessed❤️
